The Terminator (1984) Releases on 1969-12-31 Stephen Klancher: May 13, 2009 I was surprised to realize I had not actually seen this. It seemed like I must have, so I had already marked it as seen. Really really shows its age at this point, but still a decent movie. The second is much better though. Part of the problem is I already know everything about this from 2 sequels and part of a TV show. Glad I made sure I had seen this before T4 comes out. 3. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) Releases on 2003-07-02 Stephen Klancher: July 5, 2003 I don't remember a ton about it, but I seem to remember liking it more than many people did. I liked the "inevitability" ending. 4. Terminator Salvation (2009) Stephen Klancher: May 23, 2009 This is a great movie if you love explosions. I'd trade a lot of explosions for some plot about time paradoxes, or characters with motivations, or some other reason to be interested in the conflict behind the explosions. Perhaps some kind of explosions for plot elements barter system could be worked out... a post-apocalyptic movie economy perhaps? I think the best thing about this movie was that looking forward to it made me watch the series, which, with a much smaller explosion budget had to create interesting character conflict and X-Files style "small piece of the puzzle" mysteries. The other advantage is that from now on I will be looking at the Rotten Tomato score before seeing a movie. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. 16. Automatic for the People (2008) Airs on 2008-09-15 S2 - E2 of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Stephen Klancher: May 14, 2009 I sorta want to finish the series before seeing T4, but then I sorta think the series is just so-so. I like the people in it though. 17. 18. Stephen Klancher: May 17, 2009 Ooo... Summer gets to play a normal girl for a while. Well a small bit closer to normal anyway. 19. Stephen Klancher: May 17, 2009 That was a good episode. This show is constantly brutal to John. "He died for you. We all die for you." Also though, a little more of SkyNet trying to take out something other than John. Like, "Gee we have a time machine... there's probably more than one way to accomplish our goal." 20. The Tower Is Tall but the Fall Is Short (2008) Airs on 2008-10-20 S2 - E6 of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Stephen Klancher: May 18, 2009 Can't think too hard because there are too many problems with the concepts of AI with a time machine... but things are getting more interesting. Also... watched this at work with my phone's bluetooth headset... the only way I might be able to finish the series before the movie comes out. 21. 22. Mr. Ferguson Is Ill Today (2008) Airs on 2008-11-10 S2 - E8 of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Stephen Klancher: May 19, 2009 Fun episode. I enjoyed the different perspectives style. The fact that I am enjoying the series more sadly coincides with just hearing it will not have a third season. 23. Stephen Klancher: May 19, 2009 Cool thing with Derek. Glad to see a series based on time travel finally acknowledge people from different timelines, rather than portraying the future as a consistent place to go back and forth from. I'm interested to see what Ellison will do as well. 25. Strange Things Happen at the One Two Point (2008) Airs on 2008-11-24 S2 - E10 of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Stephen Klancher: May 19, 2009 She broke a mirror at the end of the episode... probably why the series got canceled. 26. Stephen Klancher: May 20, 2009 That was a pretty fun deviation from the norm. The Triple 8 having to do all of that to ensure things were as they should be in the year when he meant to arrive... hiding behind the wall ready to go in 1920 gangster style... Cameron almost kinda had a friend... 28. Stephen Klancher: May 20, 2009 Oops, I just realized I only started to watch episode 11... I'll have to go back to that. No John in this episode. Cameron killed a human which she appeared to have mistaken for a machine... doesn't seem like there should be any way that would be possible. But hey I said I needed to not think about contradictions too much if I was going to watch this show. 30. Earthlings Welcome Here (2008) Airs on 2008-12-15 S2 - E13 of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Stephen Klancher: May 20, 2009 John Henry wants to know why god didn't use more efficient joints in humans... Oh noes, Reilly... 31. Stephen Klancher: May 20, 2009 Baby SkyNet has access to the interwub... The thing with Kyle was cool since I had just seen T1 for the first time recently, so all of the lines they used directly were fresh in my mind. 32. 33. Some Must Watch, While Some Must Sleep (2009) Airs on 2009-02-27 S2 - E16 of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles 34. Stephen Klancher: May 21, 2009 Oh noes! Jesse making some progress on being evil... Cameron acknowledging she's some sort of broken... 35. Stephen Klancher: May 21, 2009 "Keep this line open" and "Maintain radio silence"?? Does that make sense? 36. Stephen Klancher: May 21, 2009 If there had been more episodes like that earlier on they could have kept going. The music near the end was cool. I like that they finally bringing into the story the fact that the characters we see now are already different than the future they have been told about... And the mention of Andy Good. Also, "Tell John Connor the answer is no." Pretty cool. 37. Stephen Klancher: May 21, 2009 So if John SkyNet Henry is being infected by a worm, does that mean he is being infected by future SkyNet, or is this the natural, Non-Weaver SkyNet of "present day" in the lead up to J-Day? Also, if the series weren't going to end I'd be bummed that Charlie wasn't going to have a role again. 38. Stephen Klancher: May 21, 2009 Brutal. Abrupt for Derek. Good episode, but makes it seem less likely they didn't know the series was going to end. I <i>thought</i> it wasn't decided until after this season had finished airing. 39. Stephen Klancher: May 21, 2009 Wow. Bummer on this being the end. I would have loved to see where they went with this. It looked like we were going to get to have a story arc in the future with alternate timeline Derek, human Cameron, possibly Kyle as the leader of the resistance, and a future where no one knows John Conner. Another blue lightning and Sarah's "I love you too" suggested she would still be there somehow. And then Weaver and John Henry were in the future too, but the implication was that she was the one from the sub in the future. The whole "Will you join us?" thing was pretty cool. Series comment: If this series had ended after the first season, I would have said it was a nice single arc and not missed it. If it ended after half of the second I would have said it deserved to end... but the second half of the second season was really cool and I really would have liked to see what they were going to do with some of the elements which they had set up. I watched the whole second season in the week leading up to seeing T4. Halfway through that week I heard they were not renewing the series for a third season. |
